Cabinet Styles
Choosing the right construction style
Every cabinet we build starts with a fundamental choice: inset, face frame, or euro frameless. Each construction method has a distinct look, feel, and set of trade-offs. Understanding the difference helps you make the right call for your space, style, and budget.

Inset Cabinets
The Gold Standard of Craftsmanship
Inset cabinetry is the most exacting style to build — doors and drawers are fitted flush inside the cabinet frame, with tight, even reveals on all four sides. The result is a refined, furniture-quality appearance that has defined fine American cabinetmaking for over 200 years.
Because each door must be precisely fitted to its opening, inset construction demands careful joinery and skilled fitting. Seasonal wood movement is managed through careful material selection and hardware. Soft-close hinges are fully concealed, and the face frame itself becomes a design element.
Best For
- Traditional, Shaker, and craftsman kitchens
- Clients who value heirloom-quality construction
- Spaces where the cabinets are the focal point
- Painted or natural wood finishes that highlight detail
Considerations
- Higher labor cost due to precision fitting
- Slightly less interior storage than frameless
- Wood movement requires careful material and finish choices

Face Frame Cabinets
Classic American Construction
Face frame cabinetry is the standard of American cabinet construction. A solid wood frame is applied to the front of the cabinet box, providing a strong, rigid structure and a classic look. Doors and drawers overlay the frame rather than sitting inside it.
The face frame adds structural rigidity and allows for a wide range of door overlay options — from partial overlay with visible frame between doors, to full overlay where the frame is nearly hidden. This style is versatile, durable, and accommodates a broad range of design aesthetics from traditional to transitional.
Best For
- Traditional to transitional design styles
- Projects prioritizing durability and proven construction
- Custom door profiles and decorative details
- A wide range of budget points
Considerations
- Center stile between adjacent doors reduces opening width
- Less accessible interior compared to frameless
- Frame adds slight depth to the cabinet face

Euro / Frameless Cabinets
Modern Precision, Maximum Space
European-style frameless cabinetry eliminates the face frame entirely. Doors and drawer fronts mount directly to the cabinet box sides with fully adjustable concealed hinges. The result is a clean, seamless facade with wider door openings and full access to the interior.
Developed in postwar Europe to maximize storage in smaller homes, frameless construction has become the dominant style in contemporary and modern kitchens worldwide. The absence of a center stile between doors means wider drawer openings and unobstructed access. Hardware is the star — soft-close drawer systems, push-to-open mechanisms, and internal organizers are all integrated cleanly.
Best For
- Modern, contemporary, and minimalist designs
- Maximizing interior storage and accessibility
- Handle-free and push-to-open hardware systems
- Slab door profiles and high-gloss finishes
Considerations
- Box construction must be very precise — there is no frame to hide gaps
- Less forgiving of out-of-plumb walls without scribing
- Not traditional in aesthetic
